  • 1/2 lb Flour
  • 3 ozs dates chopped
  • 1.5 ozs sugar
  • 1.5 ozs margarine
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda


  1. Preheat oven to 350 deg F (Gas mark 4 or 180 deg C).

  2. Rub the fat and flour together

  3. Add the sugar, baking powder and chopped dates

  4. Stir in enough milk to make a stiff mixture

  5. Add bicarbonate of soda

  6. Pile helps of mixture onto greased baking tray and bake for 20-30 minutes.
