Sweet and Sour Chicken

  • 350 gram skinless boneless chicken breast , cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 2 scallions
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 small pineapple


  • 4 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 4 tbsp all purpose flour
  • ½ cup water

Sweet and sour sauce

  • 3 tbsp chili sauce
  • ½ tsp ground white pepper
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp plum sauce
  • 3 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp rice vinegar
  • ½ tsp corn starch


  1. Start with marinate chicken breast cubes with rice wine for 10 minutes.

  2. Mix all sweet and sour sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside.

  3. Mix all batter ingredients in a mixing bowl and set aside.

  4. Prepare hot oil for deep frying. Add chicken cubes into the batter, then deep fry until golden brown, set aside on paper towel to remove excess oil.

  5. Heat 2 tablespoon of oil in a frying pan. Sauté garlic until fragrant, then add green bell pepper and pineapple and stir fry for 3 mins

  6. Pour the sweet and sour sauce into the pan, stir to mix well, and bring it all to boil. Add the fried chicken along with chopped scallions into the pan, stir until chicken is covered in sauce.
